Fantasy Football Picks - Week Two

Every Friday at Mustache Sports, we do our best to provide you with some advice for your fantasy football team.  Hopefully, it's not the advice you will see on every other fantasy site.  On Tuesday, we will let you know how we did.

This week's Fantasy Football picks were done by Monster.

Who We Really Like:

Rex Grossman vs Arizona
Sexy Rexy proved the Redskins can beat up a defense battered by injuries; I see Arizona as no better than a team who is as injured as the New York Giants.  Cam Newton put up 4 TD’s in his rookie debut on their home turf.  Arizona has problems.  Look for Rex to have a field day coming off an injection of confidence courtesy of the New York Giants.

Mario Manningham vs St. Louis
Hakeem Nicks: hurt, Steve Smith: traded, Kevin Boss: hurt, Jeremy Shockey: whaaa???.  You get the idea, who is Manning going to throw to?  He really only has one guy he can feel confident in and that’s Manningham.  The former Michigan stud has put up sporadic big numbers in the past, but his ability is there and now the situation calls for 10+ targets.  That’s really all I can look for outside of “talent” when it comes to WR’s: how many times will they get thrown to?  The more opportunity WR’s see, the better their chances of a big day.

Colt McCoy at Indianapolis
I think Houston has a great offense, but I think Indy has an even worse defense.  Indy hasn’t been able to stop anyone for years and typically depend on Peyton Manning to control the clock on offense and win in a shootout if needed.  That’s no longer the case.  McCoy showed great signs of ability last season, and I think after getting week 1 out of the way and losing to a weak Bengals squad, he’ll be hungry to put the hurt on the Colts…think of the Colts as the red headed step child of the NFL right now.

Mike Tolbert at New England
I don’t care what anyone says, New England’s defense is not good at football.  Phillip Rivers and the Chargers offense: VERY GOOD AT FOOTBALL.  When your secondary lacks talent, you play it safe; expect the Pats to sit in a soft deep zone to prevent the big plays versus the Chargers, thus creating ample opportunity for Mike Tolbert underneath on draw plays and the short pass.  We clearly know what the guy can do once he gets his hands on the ball, and he clearly displayed that he is the primary back, 3rd down back, and goal line back on a high powered offense that should see plenty of time in the red zone.  New England having a sick, high-scoring offense only helps their cause even more.  This one will be a shootout, anyone on San Diego can have a big day, but I don’t see any reason why Tolbert can’t repeat his performance from last week.

Who We Might Like:

Jason Campbell at Buffalo
I get it, Buffalo steamrolled a Chiefs team we all thought would be a playoff contender.  I attribute the 7 points allowed more to the Chiefs sucking than I do Buffalo being awesome on defense.  Jason Campbell, having a week under his belt, should feel more comfortable.  If you have someone questionable like Bradford or Matt Ryan at your QB spot, Campbell could be a nice, but risky, start if you can flex a 2nd QB.

Kevin Kolb/Larry Fitzgerald at Washington
Again, these aren’t lock picks, but it’s only week 2 and despite the ‘Skins looking good vs the Giants week 1, I think the Kolb/Fitz tandem is more talented.  I see them throwing the ball more and Larry Fitz getting open more than he did last week.

New Orleans Wide Receivers vs Chicago
I don’t care what defense they’re playing, Brees is solid.  With Colston and Moore hurt, that means more targets for guys like Henderson, Meachem, and Graham.  I think the NO WR’s are too big for Chicago to handle.  The Bears pass rush was dominating last week, but the Saint have a better line than Atlanta and Brees has a much better pocket presence.   Saints light it up in the passing game at home and any of their WR’s are worth a start.

Frank Gore vs Dallas
I think the Niners Defense keeps this game close.  With lack of confidence in Alex Smith, Harbaugh will rely on his playmaker RB Frank Gore.  I think Gore will want to bounce back from a poor week 1 performance and I see him having a big game against an overrated Cowboys Defense.

Who We Don’t Like:

Anyone on Atlanta’s Offense vs Philadelphia
The Falcons looked terrible week 1 vs the Bears, and Philly is supposed to have a much better secondary with their new offseason acquisitions.  I particularly wasn’t impressed with Atlanta’s play calling, more than talent, against the Bears, was to blame.  That’s not something players can control.  Despite Atlanta’s excellent home record the last few years, I don’t see Atlanta figuring it out by week 2.

Cam Newton vs Green Bay
Cam Newton is in way over his head this week.  Despite a great debut performance versus a horrible Arizona team, whom he almost beat himself (other than maybe Steve Smith), I just can’t see him going to town on the Packers, their scheme is just too tough for a young rookie QB to decipher.

Maurice Jones-Drew at New York Jets
What happens when you have only one good player on offense?  He becomes the entire defensive strategy focus.  This is not Tennessee, this is the Jets, and they are a top 5 defense .  Even if the passing game gets going for the Jags (which it won’t), the Jets will force them to make the Jags beat them through the air, not on the ground.  MJD will not have a good day.

Josh Freeman at Minnesota:
Call me a homer, but Freeman didn’t look so great week 1, and neither did the run game.  The Vikings may have a weak offense, but on the road their defense still showed more than stout first half against the highest scoring pass offense of 2010.  Freeman will have to deal with the likes of Jared Allen, and the Viking’s front 7 still pride themselves on stopping the run first.  Look for Freeman to be forced into a one dimensional game and have little time to work.  Until he shows us something, I’m down on him (even though he’s my QB in a few fantasy leagues).
